Enhance Your Quality of Life

By Bill Bachrach, CSP

Almost everyone in the world has lamented, at one time or another, about not having enough time in the day. "If only I had an extra hour each day…I could spend more time with my kids, or having fun, or doing something for myself." The truth is, even if we had FIVE extra hours each day, we would probably still misuse the time, and still bemoan our inability to finish everything with which we task ourselves.

We can't change the number of hours we have each day. It doesn't matter if we are rich, attractive or brilliantly smart, 168 hours per week is what we all have to work with. It's not a whole lot of time. Or is it? With a little bit of thought and some strategic delegation, those 168 hours can become more than enough time for the things in life that are most important to you.

Some things cannot be delegated and some things can. “The Quality of Life Enhancer™” is designed to help you keep financial management in perspective. The example to the right shows how you can determine what types of changes you can make in order to have a better quality of life. This is a sample, and the left hand column can be customized to your own goals.

This exercise is designed to focus you on what's most important in your life, and to help you further discern what activities will contribute the most to your quality of life. “The Quality of Life Enhancer Worksheet™” is based on two principles:

1. The more you can align your behavior with your core values (what's important to you), the happier, more satisfied, and fulfilled you'll be; and

2. The more you delegate what's less important, the more time you have for what's more important.
